Review: I was surprised at how entertaining this was for a factual, helpful book. It's written in an engaging way and is useful too. Highly recommended.

The Last Revenge by Nathaniel Danes

The Last Revenge (The Last Hero Trilogy Book 2) by [Danes, Nathaniel]
Blood demands blood.

Driven by grief to the darkest recesses of his soul, Trent Maxwell lives and fights for one reason, revenge.

As hidden agendas plot, Trent embarks on an unholy quest to marshal the forces he needs to exact the heavy toll his broken heart demands.

The largest fleets and armies ever assembled in space collide. A river of blood soaks the galaxy, but when is enough, enough?
Review: I love this series! I really enjoyed the first book, and actually I think I might like this one even better. Trent is a believable character that you can't help rooting for. The military descriptions aren't so much that it's hard to follow the story, but they enhance the plot well. Want to find out what happens when humans vs. aliens? Then look no further.

Revived by Ernesto Pavan

Revived by [Pavan, Ernesto]
For deadpan snark queen Violet Sharpe, death is not the end.

If you think life sucks, wait until after you're dead. After finding out she's contracted porthmeos, a nasty parasite, Violet is faced with a choice: either meet her end before her thirtieth birthday, or become one of the Revived, which is the politically correct word for... well, a zombie.

But the challenges of her new un-life are way worse than she thought. As part of a new minority, she faces discrimination and hatred, not to mention a laundry list of physical limitations and the looming ghost of depression. Can she meet these challenges with her usual strength and dark humor? Or is being Revived a fate worse than death? For deadpan snark queen Violet Sharpe, death is not the end.
Review: This is a zombie story with a difference, and I absolutely loved it! It isn't filled with gore and violence, it's more a dark comedy that examines society in a unique way.  Vi choses a life of the undead rather than death, and is soon faced with a life that isn't what she thought it would be...in a lot of ways it's very relatable. The unexpected ending makes the book worth reading in itself!

The Chosen by J. R. Ward

The Chosen (Black Dagger Brotherhood Book 15) by [Ward, J. R.]
A scorching forbidden love threatens to tear a rift through the Black Dagger Brotherhood in J. R. Ward's newest novel in the #1 New York Times bestselling series.
Xcor, leader of the Band of Bastards, convicted of treason against the Blind King, is facing a brutal interrogation and torturous death at the hands of the Black Dagger Brotherhood. Yet after a life marked by cruelty and evil deeds, he accepts his soldier's fate, his sole regret the loss of a sacred female who was never his: the Chosen Layla.
Layla alone knows the truth that will save Xcor's life. But revealing his sacrifice and his hidden heritage will expose them both and destroy everything Layla holds dear - even her role of mother to her precious young. Torn between love and loyalty, she must summon the courage to stand up against the only family she has for the only man she will ever love. Yet even if Xcor is somehow granted a reprieve, he and Layla would have to confront a graver challenge: bridging the chasm that divides their worlds without paving the way for a future of even greater war, desolation and death.
As a dangerous old enemy returns to Caldwell, and the identity of a new deity is revealed, nothing is certain or safe in the world of the Black Dagger Brotherhood, not even true love . . . or destinies that have long seemed set in stone.
Review: I really enjoyed this addition to the series! Layla and Xcor have an in depth chemistry that was incredible to read, especially when faced with all the twists and unexpected turns the plot had to offer. I love anything by J.R. Ward, especially the Black Dagger Brotherhood books, so I was keen to get my hands on this one. I read it much quicker than I thought I would because I was literally unable to put it down. Any fans of paranormal romance will devour these books, they're impossible not to love

Blackspoon by Daniel Eagleton

Blackspoon by [Eagleton, Daniel]
If you were at the centre of a real-life conspiracy, would you even know it?

Charlie has just smuggled five kilos of uncut heroin back from the war in Afghanistan. This much he knows for sure. He also knows that, after he made it through customs, another solider was caught doing the same as him. And that the military policemen who provided safe passage; one of them has been found dead in an apparent suicide, while the other one has gone AWOL. Is it really possible there’s some kind of cover-up going on? Because even if there is –even if Charlie knew that for sure- who’d believe him? After all, he’s a criminal now. Veteran of a war no one quite understands. Praying, hoping. Waiting for whatever’s coming next.

Blackspoon is a pulp crime thriller in the classic mould. Filled with a remarkable cast of losers, cheaters and ne'er-do-wells, its protagonist is a complex, compelling figure hamstrung by his own poor decisions as he's inexplicably drawn into an underworld rife with drugs, exploitation and institutional corruption. Forced to take decisive action, Charlie's is an odyssey filled with violence, humour and mostly (although not exclusively) unrequited lust that, even by his own reckoning, he may or may not survive.
Review: A unique tale filled with action, adventure, and enough twists and turns to keep it really interesting. Great if you're looking for something a little different!

Murder on the Pilgrims Way by @juliewassmer

Murder on the Pilgrims Way (Whitstable Pearl Mysteries Book 4) by [Wassmer, Julie]
Pearl receives a surprise present from her mother, Dolly - an early summer break at a riverside manor house that has been recently transformed into an exclusive hotel - the newly named Villa Pellegrini.
Pellegrini - the Italian word for pilgrims - reflects the fact that the building lies on the old Pilgrims Way into Canterbury, and Pearl is looking forward to the break, not least because DCI Mike McGuire has been neglecting her due to his work. But when she discovers that she's actually booked in for a cookery course from the Italian celebrity chef, Nico Caruso, she begins to think again . . .
Pearl doesn't welcome instruction on cookery at the best of times, and certainly not from an arrogant chef like Caruso. She goes along, intent on challenging Caruso's egotism - and a long tradition of men dominating gastronomy - but soon finds herself distracted, not only by her enchanting surroundings but by the disparate selection of guests.
She even begins to enjoy Caruso's attentions - and his cookery - until one of the guests goes missing and it becomes clear that murder is on the menu.
Review: It's impossible not to get completely enthralled by the amazing Whitstable cosy mystery series. The setting of the books is almost a character of its own it's so well described, making it very easy to visualise what's being read. As for the mystery...it's impossible to work out who the culprit is because of the exciting twists and turns along the way. Mystery, intrigue, and even a little bit of romance...highly recommended, the entire series is incredible!

Review: This is a really great sci fi book that leaves you thinking long after you've finished it. The plot is well thought out, and it seems like a lot of research has gone into it, meaning there weren't any plot holes that I picked up on! Really cool, unique too.

AM13 Outbreak Shorts

Check out my new Wattpad freebie here:

Prologue

AM13 Corrected - High Resolution
I’m glaring at him just as intently as he stares at me. His eyes are so familiar, which really they should be. I’ve spent so much time gazing into them, wondering what’s going on behind them, hoping that he feels the same way I do. But now, something’s off. I can’t quite put my finger on it, but it’s definitely there all the same.
It’s not just the cold, unfeeling expression that he’s wearing, or even the red rims and the loss of color in the iris of his eyes—although I do miss the deep ocean blue.
No, it’s much worse than that.
I bite my lip to trying to stop the tears that threaten to spill out. I want to speak, to ask him why, what’s going on, but my vocal chords feel strangled, constricted. It’s a struggle to even breathe.
Time passes. I’m not sure how much because nothing changes. We’re still here, everything’s exactly the same. Me verses him in this weird standoff that I just can’t get my head around. All I know for sure is that this isn’t going to end well.
He starts getting anxious. His eyes begin to flicker from side to side erratically. A puddle of drool collects on his chin, and a low growl emits from his stomach—a sound that I’ve never heard come from a human being before.
What the hell am I supposed to make of all this?
I’m scared. Absolutely terrified. My palms are sweaty and I can feel my heart pounding in my ears. On top of that, my dry mouth is absolutely aching for something to drink. I’d kill for some water or something right now.
But then he distracts me from my thoughts by moving. Finally something is going to happen, and I feel a strange sort of excitement at the prospect.
Then he dives for me and everything goes black.

Who exactly do energy vampires and negative people affect?

Simple … Everybody!

So what is an energy vampire? You’ve probably heard the term “energy vampires” before, especially if you’re at all interested in psychic ability or psychic development. But what exactly are energy vampires? They’re not real vampires. Well, I guess they’re real vampires, but not like the ones you see in Twilight … “Energy vampires” feed upon your energy. In other words, their primary target is your spiritual body, not your physical body.

“Energy vampires” are people who constantly draw upon other people’s energy in order to help “recharge” their own system.

So what do energy vampires and negative people have in common?
They essentially do the same thing. They draw upon your energy, and they will have a very profound effect on your system, both spiritually and physically. Many times, they will wear you down to the point of exhaustion. However, unless you’re aware of what is happening, you may not even notice the effects these people are having in your life, on a day-to-day basis.

Empaths, this is the book for you!

The Good Dictator I: The Birth of an Empire by Gonçalo JN Dias

The Good Dictator I: The Birth of an Empire by [Dias, Gonçalo JN]
An unidentified object parked on the moon - and no one seems to know where it came from. Gustavo, a middle-aged computer programmer with a comfortable and grey life, decides to make a list of what he would need to survive a hypothetical attack. He becomes obsessed with the list, spends a fortune, robs a drugstore: his own family thinks he is going insane. However, after the attack, it’s the insane who are well prepared for a new era in society. First book of a trilogy.

Excerpt:
- I’ll ask you something and you may not decline. – Said Rute with a seductive look.
- Tell me.
- Today, you will have to have dinner with me as a way to repay you for all of your work.
Gustavo gave a little laugh and placed his right hand on Rute's left arm.
- You don’t have to repay me; I did it because I like your company.
- I won't accept a no, please.
At that moment, Gustavo felt like kissing her thin lips, but he thought that perhaps he was misreading her signs and feared being rejected.
- I accept the invitation, then. But first, I will go home, take a shower, change, and bring some wine to water the food.
- Perfect. – Rute answered with a pleasant smile.
While he dressed up for dinner, Gustavo found himself a little nervous, he liked Rute and felt attracted to her, but he wonder if she felt the same way and it everything seemed so fast and recent that it was best to just have a single peaceful, relaxed night, in good company, and not to try any foolishness. He left home very elegant, with two bottles of red wine and with his hands sweating in anxiety.
When he arrived, Rute was already dressed with one of Marta's beautiful dresses, which was somewhat weird for Gustavo. She was still cooking dinner, and they had an exciting talk which lasted the entire dinner, always watered with red wine, which soon made Rute a little tipsy, since she had not drunk for a long time. They talked about the past and their previous relationships. Rute confessed that she missed her two daughters and her father a lot, but she did not mention her grandson, because she did not want to give the image of being grandmother, she didn't even mentioned having missed her husband, because she actually did not feel that way. Gustavo talked about the list, his obsession with the attack, his idiotic parents-in-law, how they had gotten hold of power and the complicated political situation in which he was involved. He did not know whether or not he should kiss her, if he should make a move, if he was mistaking things; Rute on the other hand, felt like kissing him, but she was afraid he took her as an old woman, that the nine year difference would be too much for him. A little after finishing dinner, there was an uncomfortable silence; Gustavo did not know what to say, nor what subject to bring up, he thought silence was a signal it was time to depart, besides, tomorrow he would have to wake up early for the agricultural tasks. He got up, and when he was ready to speak, Rute got up with him and caught his hand softly; she thought of saying something to keep him from going, but she simply looked at Gustavo’s blue eyes; he was filled with courage and approached Rute’s face and lips slowly. After the first kiss, many others came and their hands ran across both of their bodies with more and more intensity; they got into the small bedroom without stopping their kisses as they took off their clothes as they took off their clothes in a clumsy manner and ended up naked on the old bed that Gustavo had brought a few hours ago.
Review: This is a really cool and unique story, the author takes a very different approach to power and the end and rise of the world. It's a very good start to the trilogy and left me wanting more.

“A cross between Twilight & True Blood.” ~ Amazon Reader Review

She knows what hides in the shadows…and now they know about her…

I could go for a man with bite, and I don’t mind a little danger. But when I’m working a routine PI case and meet the seductive and mysterious Adam, it doesn’t take me long to realize he may be way more bite than I can handle.

I’ve just learned vampires aren’t only scary stories told in the dark of night. Adam is the real deal. And, if having one immortal after my heart weren’t enough to convince me, there’s another one after my blood.

A serial killer with an appetite for young blondes is on the loose in Phoenix, and it looks like he’s added me to the menu. I’m a pawn in a game played by beautiful monsters, and one wrong move could mean “game over” for me.

Adam might be the only one who can save me, or he might be the wildest—and deadliest—mistake I’ve ever made.

'[Young] is a goddess when it comes to writing hot scenes - Once Upon a Twilight
It took over my life until I finished reading it. - Gemma Alice on The One Real Thing, Netgalley
Review: I love Samantha Young's books, she always brings  a steamy sexual chemistry to her characters that draws the reader in, and this one is no exception. Bailey and Vaughn are a classic case of opposites attract in the best way possible. Their relationship is fun, exciting, and takes you on an emotional rollercoacter. Absolutely loved it!
